  • the new karate kid

My first problem with this movie trailer is that Pat Morita is not playing the mentor.  My second problem with this is the family moves to China; karate is from Japan more correctly it comes from okinawa which is an island just off of Japan and belongs to Japan.  The martial arts form that comes from China is wushu more commonly known as kung fu.  It makes no sense that a chinese man would be teaching karate.

This looks like a sad ripoff of the original, but I might rent it.  What do you think? Is the new Karate Kid going to be worth watching?

  • Do you think someone could have more than one soulmate?

Before you can ask if it is possible to have more than one soulmate, you need to ask can you have a single soulmate?  And before you can ask if you have a soulmate, you have to ask what is a soulmate?  The original meaning behind the word soulmate comes from the belief in reincarnation.  A soulmate is a person that when you meet him/her you feel like you have known them your whole life, and this feeling spawns from the fact that you knew them in a past life or multiple past lives.

Just kidding!  I'm not going to copout with a lame answer; I know that most people are talking about finding that one special love, but it's often treated like its some magical thing that must be found.  Reducing down to some mystical thing that can't be understood is just as lame as reducing down to the origins of the word, but the first 3 questions of my opening statement are very valid.  And to understand my answer, you must understand what I believe a soulmate is.

For the sake of this discussion, I am going to limit the meaning to romantic relationships; however, it can expand to a much broader topic, so with no future a delay, what is a soulmate?

A soulmate is a person that you have chosen.  It is a person that you have taken the time to know, and then you take it a step further; you invest yourself into that person because you can, and it's a life long commitment.  To understand my view of a soulmate, you will have to dispense with the idea that love is a feeling.  Love is an action, and I'm not talking about sex.  Love is giving of yourself to the point that it hurts! "Love is is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, does not act unbecomingly; it does not seek its own, is not provoked, does not take into account a wrong suffered, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth;  bears all things, believes all thing, hopes all things, and endures all things." 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NASB).

Finding a soulmate doesn't mean you're going to be happy all the time or that everything will be perfect.  Its not some magical thing or some mystical feeling.  It's certainly not some soul that you keep bumping into life after life.

For my final thought, I will leave you with this:  If you meet the requirements of a soulmate, you won't have time for more than one.
